About the University

Kalasalingam University, formerly known as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering (AKCE) was started in 1984. Late “Kalvivallal” Thiru T. Kalasalingam, a veteran freedom fighter is the founder Chairman of the College. The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, New Delhi has granted University status (Under section 3 of UGC Act 1956) wide notification No. F.9-2/2002/U.3 dated 20th October 2006 to AKCE. The University is located at the foot hills of the Western Ghats in a rural setting of Virudhunagar District. It started functioning from the academic year 2007-08. At present the university is offering 28 Under Graduate, 44 Post Graduate Programmes and doctoral programs. Kalasalingam University is the first institution in Asia to offer the six year Integrated B.Tech. programme for the Speech & Hearing Impaired Persons (SHIP). The university is accredited by NAAC with A grade and 3 of the U.G. programmes are accredited by NBA.

TIFAC-CORE in Network Engineering and National centre for Advanced Research in Discrete Mathematics (n-CARDMATH) has been set up with the financial support of DST, Government of India to promote research. The International Research Centre (IRC) at KLU is a testament to the vision of the founder to create a true hub of research that goes beyond the boundaries of the country. Over 1 lakh square feet is dedicated to the development of research and innovation in the fields of computing, energy and materials. The university has signed MOU with foreign universities, research organizations and industries with an objective of promoting research and development.

About the KLU-IEEE Students Branch

The IEEE is the world’s largest professional association for the advancement of technology. Through its global membership, the IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from Aerospace systems, Computer and Telecommunications to Bio-Medical Engineering, Electric Power and consumer Electronics. The value of IEEE membership does not justify the cost. The membership is used to stay current with the fast changing world of technology.

The KLU-IEEE Students Branch (34451) was inaugurated on 30th October 2006 in the Kalasalingam University campus. For the past one decade, it has been successful in shimmering out the tranquil thoughts of the students by organizing various conferences, workshops and Guest Lectures. The KLU-IEEE Students Branch has proven its uniqueness by leading ahead with pro student activities under the guidance of Branch counselor Dr.D.Devaraj. The Student branch perpetually tries to simulate technological innovations in the field of engineering and to provide a platform to various students and professional society members.<.p>

About the Conference

Computational Intelligence is an emerging approach to computing which mimics the remarkable ability of the human mind to reason and learn in an environment of uncertainty and imprecision. The scientific goal of computational intelligence is to understand the principles that make intelligent behavior possible in natural or artificial systems. The major constituents of Computational Intelligent techniques are Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy logic and Evolutionary Computation. Apart from the above, the other popular approaches are Swarm Intelligence and Artificial Immune System which can be seen as a part of evolutionary computing. They have wide applicability in areas ranging from pattern recognition, decision making, control and optimization.

The IEEE Student Branch of Kalasalingam University is organizing the IEEE International Conference on “Intelligent Techniques in Control, Optimization and Signal Processing” INCOS’17 during it is the seventh conference in the series of INCOS conducted from 2010 onwards. The conference will bring together top researchers in the broad area of Intelligent systems. The conference will provide an opportunity to share and exchange ideas on current research on Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy logic and Evolutionary Computation and their potential applications to control, optimization and signal processing. The conference includes paper presentation, keynote address and invited talk by experts from industries and leading academic institutions.
